While trekking in Nepal, you will see tons of stupas, chhortens and monasteries on the trails.
And unknowingly you might have walked from the wrong which is neither punishable by the laws nor any bad will happen to you.
But according to religious beliefs, walking from the correct side can have spiritual benefits.
So, how should you walk on stupas and monasteries?
When you’re passing by the stupas and monasteries, you just need to walk from the left side (clockwise direction). And when you return from the same trail, you complete a Parikrama (one cycle) which is equivalent to worshiping or praying.
The exact word for completing one circle of temple, stupa or monastery is called “Circumambulation”.
Simply,
it purifies negative Karma and ensures favorable rebirth (according to Buddha).
